Help Ruudi: A Boy Fighting Leukemia Needs a Toilet and Shower at Home

Dear Friends,

In Harju County lives a very friendly and cheerful eight-year-old boy named Ruudi, who has been battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia for the third year now. Over the past three years, Ruudi and his mother have spent their time in various hospitals across Estonia.

Today, they have reached a stage in treatment where Ruudi has undergone a bone marrow transplant — fortunately, thanks to dedicated doctors and donors, the situation currently seems to be under control. However, the future is always uncertain. They live one day at a time. Ruudi still cannot eat or drink everything he might desire — tap water remains strictly forbidden for him.

Ruudi’s mother reached out to us for help in building a toilet and shower in their home.

Due to Ruudi’s health condition, the family is forced to set up washing facilities in a small space under the stairs. Their home is a small house from the era of the first Republic of Estonia, where until now a dry toilet was in use. All other necessary renovations have already been carried out by the father himself. The local municipality has also lent a helping hand — thanks to their support, all necessary construction materials are now available. We have just found an electrician who can bring light into the room.

However, the family is struggling to complete the tiling of the shower and some of the electrical work.

💛 What’s needed:
A tiler

Is there a skilled person in Tallinn or Harju County who would be willing to help? We can offer some publicity in return, cover fuel costs, and the family will offer a small thank-you gift.

In addition to building the washing facilities, the family is also required to connect to the city’s water and sewage system, which costs about €3,000.

The old sewage well and pipeline are completely worn out, renovation is not an option, and the Environmental Board no longer permits their use.
